About the gala
Last year, State Farm® honored five women during Life Insurance Awareness Month at a gala luncheon on New York City. Each honoree received a paid trip for two to attend the luncheon along with a cash prize of $10,000. This year, marking the fifth anniversary of the program, a group of 13 men and women who have a lost a spouse or parent were honored with $10,000 each and a trip for two to Chicago, where they were recognized for their accomplishments.
Dr. Joy Browne
2008's Embrace Life Awards spokesperson was Dr. Joy Browne, clinical psychologist, national radio host and accomplished author. She presented the Awards and gave the keynote speech at the ceremony last year.

Susan D. Waring, Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer - State Farm Life, and Vice President – Health
Susan D. Waring, CLU, ChFC, is executive vice president, chief administrative officer - State Farm Life and vice president - health in Bloomington, Ill. She is a member of the board of directors of State Farm Life, State Farm Life and Accident Assurance, and State Farm Annuity and Life companies.
Waring began working for State FarmĀ® in 1986 as an agent in Mercersburg, Pa. In 1990, she was named agency manager in Hanover, Pa., and in 1994 she was promoted to agency director in the Concordville, Pa., office. Waring was named executive assistant - agency in the President's Office at corporate headquarters in 1996. She was named vice president - agency in the Ballston Spa, N.Y., office in 1997 and became vice president - mutual funds at corporate headquarters in 2000. She became senior vice president, chief administrative officer - State Farm Life in 2001 and assumed her current position in 2004.
Waring received a bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pa., and a master's degree from Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pa. She earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1997 and her Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation in 2004. She is a member of the board of directors for the Life Office Management Association (LOMA), the Medical Information Bureau (MIB) and The American College Foundation. She is also a member of the board of trustees of Illinois Wesleyan University.
